There’s a moment that happens at nearly every wedding held at The Chapel Restoration. It’s the moment the doors open, the couple steps inside, and the guests go quiet — not because they’ve been asked to, but because the space demands it. The soaring ceilings, the arched windows flooding the room with light, the faint shimmer of the Hudson River visible through the trees, it stops people in their tracks. That’s what nearly 200 years of history feels like.
Located at 45 Market Street in the heart of Cold Spring, New York, The Chapel Restoration is a landmark 1833 building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also, for the right couple, one of the most unforgettable wedding venues in the Hudson Valley. Here’s everything you need to know.
Frequently Asked Questions

What makes The Chapel Restoration different from other wedding venues?
Most wedding venues offer a beautiful room. The Chapel offers a story. Originally built in 1833 as the first Roman Catholic Church in the Hudson Valley, the building was abandoned in 1906 and sat as a weather-ravaged ruin until its restoration in the 1970s. Today it is a thriving cultural landmark, a place where world-class musicians perform, writers read their work aloud, and couples celebrate the most important days of their lives. When you get married here, you’re not just renting a room. You’re becoming part of a history that stretches back nearly two centuries.
What does the space look like?
The Chapel is a stunning example of Greek Revival architecture, with soaring ceilings, tall arched windows, and the warm character of a building that has been lovingly preserved rather than renovated beyond recognition. The interior is intimate and acoustically exceptional — the same qualities that make it a world-class concert venue make it an extraordinary space for spoken vows and live music. The grounds offer spectacular views of the Hudson River and the surrounding Hudson Highlands, providing a dramatic natural backdrop for photos and outdoor celebrations.
How many guests can the Chapel accommodate?
Yes. The Chapel can serve as the setting for your ceremony, your reception, or both. Our grounds are available for outdoor use and offer stunning views of the Hudson River and surrounding highlands — however, outdoor gatherings currently require a tent and are best suited to smaller, more intimate groups. We are excited to share that The Chapel Restoration has recently received a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts to further develop the grounds, which will expand our capacity to host outdoor celebrations in the seasons ahead. Stay tuned — the best is still coming.
What about catering and vendors?
We recommend working with vendors who are familiar with the space and the surrounding Cold Spring area. Cold Spring is home to a vibrant community of photographers, florists, caterers, and planners who know and love the Chapel. We’re happy to share recommendations.
Does the Chapel have a pipe organ or piano available for the ceremony?
Yes — and this is one of the details that makes a ceremony here truly special. The Chapel is home to a custom tracker action pipe organ built by George Bozeman, installed in 1996, as well as a magnificent antique Steinway Grand Piano once owned by the Livingston family. Live music performed on either instrument during your ceremony is an experience your guests will never forget.
How do we get to the Chapel, and is there parking?
The Chapel Restoration is located at 45 Market Street in Cold Spring, NY directly across from the Cold Spring Metro-North Railroad Station, making it easily accessible by train from New York City. Parking is available in the surrounding area. Cold Spring’s charming village, with its restaurants, shops, and riverfront, is steps away perfect for out-of-town guests looking to make a weekend of it.
How do we inquire about availability?
We’d love to hear from you. Visit us at chapelrestoration.org to get in touch and start the conversation. Wedding dates book in advance, so we encourage you to reach out early.
A Few Words for Couples Still in the Planning Stage
If you’re just beginning to think about venues, here’s our honest advice: visit in person before you decide anything. Photos of the Chapel are beautiful, but they don’t fully capture what it feels like to stand inside. The light, the acoustics, the sense of history — these are things you have to experience. We offer [PLACEHOLDER: tours/open houses/by-appointment visits] and would be glad to show you around.
For couples who are actively comparing venues, we’ll simply say this: there is no other space in the Hudson Valley quite like The Chapel Restoration. The combination of architectural beauty, historical significance, natural setting, and intimate scale is singular. Couples who marry here tell us, years later, that the venue itself became one of the defining memories of their day.
We’d be honored to be part of yours.
